There are still countless hurdles to jump on the #federal side of the fence but with each passing election cycle, we get closer and closer to ending the groundless prohibition of a significantly benevolent and innoxious plant. The latest states to join us on the planet of common sense are Maryland and Missouri. While these states are preparing for the transition, they both project very different paths of progression. Join us as we discuss what we know so far about the laws for those states and see how the nation is shaping up after the results reach their final tally. As Republicans and Democrats both differ on their approach to the green wave sweeping the nation, how are their numbers in the House and Senate going to impact what many advocates and activists have been working decades to accomplish in the coming years?Tune into Cannabis Legalization News with host Tom Howard and Miggy420 where we discuss these stories and more. 🌱 We can help with your cannabis business. Congressional Bill to form a Federal Marijuana Commission | Cannabis News November 2022
Congressional Bill to form a Federal Marijuana Commission | Cannabis News November 2022This week, senator John Hickenlooper announced his plans to introduce a bill before #congress to form a federal marijuana commission to oversee #cannabis reform measures on the federal level. This comes as good news to those who have been pushing for more sensible cannabis policy at the national level. The proposed commission would be tasked with studying how best to regulate cannabis, taking into account the different approaches that states have taken so far. It would also be responsible for making recommendations to Congress on how to deal with issues such as taxation, licensing, and enforcement. This is a welcome development, as it shows that there is growing interest in finding a workable solution to the conflict between state and federal laws on cannabis. With the formation of this commission, we may finally see some progress on this issue. Also in the headlines, it was recently announced that Sean “Diddy” Combs is partnering with Casa Verde Capital, a cannabis-focused investment firm, to launch the largest black owned cannabis company in the world. This is huge news in the cannabis industry, as black-owned businesses are still relatively rare.#Diddy plans to purchase assets in Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts – three states that have legalized recreational cannabis. This will give the company a strong foothold in the Northeast US market. The company will focus on creating quality products and brands that appeal to a wide range of consumers. This is a smart move, as the legal cannabis industry is still in its early stages and there is a lot of room for growth.Tune into Cannabis Legalization News with host Tom Howard and Miggy420 where we discuss these stories and more. 🌱 We can help with your cannabis business. Feds Deny Citizenship over Cannabis Use | Cannabis Legalization News | Dr. Beau Kilmer Rand
video -> https://youtu.be/s7jMSZcIQw0Past #cannabis use is credited as the reason the #immigration authorities denied a woman’s request for #citizenship this week. Cannabis remains federally classified as a schedule I drug and purportedly has no medicinal benefits. But according to Judge Nina Y. Wang, this is a demonstration of having poor “moral character” and was grounds enough to deny the Swiss citizen her naturalized American citizenship. One’s moral character is called into question when applying for citizenship to America. The woman’s honesty was not called into question however as she admitted to authorities that she may have used cannabis ten times when she was in her teens. And while a flawed morality argument may have prevented her from being granted an American citizenship, Snoop Dog’s professional joint roller has recently been interviewed and sheds some light on how much smoke this cannabis superstar actually goes through. This fascinating insight into the life of one of the most recognized names in America will leave you stunned. But don’t worry, we have more of the week’s top stories plus a Halloween inspired Name That Strain. We also welcome guest speaker Dr. Beau Kilmer on the show today. Dr. Kilmer is the co-director of nonprofit, nonpartisan RAND Drug Policy Research Center. His research on cannabis policy has appeared in top journals like the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA Psychiatry, and his commentaries on this topic have been published by CNN, Los Angeles Times, NBC, New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and other outlets. His co-authored book on cannabis legalization was published by Oxford University Press. He grew up in Northern Michigan, is a diehard Golden State Warriors fan, and is still trying to figure out how to raise his Australian Shepard.Tune into Cannabis Legalization News with host Tom Howard and Miggy420 where we discuss these stories and more. 🌱 We can help with your cannabis business. Will Biden federally decriminalize cannabis? Cannabis Legalization News October 2022
One of President Biden’s original campaign promises was to #decriminalize #cannabis and expunge prior convictions with little done to actually accomplish these goals until recently. Many are now wondering if these changes will have the desired effects of setting the stage for federal decriminalization or if it was just an act aimed at garnering more political support for his administration. So, the big question is: will President Biden actually make good on his promise and #federally decriminalize cannabis before he leaves office?Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. The reality is that federal decriminalization of cannabis is a complicated issue with a lot of moving parts. There are many factors that could potentially impact the President’s decision, including public opinion, pressure from other lawmakers, and even international treaties. That being said, there are also many reasons to believe that President Biden will make good on his promise and federal decriminalize cannabis before he leaves office. For one, there is increasing public support for cannabis reform in the United States. In addition, there is a growing number of lawmakers who are openly supportive of federal decriminalization. And last but not least, federal decriminalization would align with President Biden’s stated goal of reducing racial disparities in the criminal justice system. On today’s episode, we discuss the potential benefits and pitfalls of the president’s recent announcement and how many people may actually receive pardons. As the November midterm elections approach, the topic of cannabis is coming up more and more in the polls and states are looking closely at how legalization is impacting their economy. Federal Cannabis News October 2022
President Joe #Biden has pardoned people convicted of #marijuana possession by the federal government, as part of a broader executive order directing his administration to review the way that the drug is classified and regulated. This move is seen as a positive step by those who believe that such convictions are a shameful legacy of the war on drugs, and that they are out of step with a growing majority of Americans who now support legalization. This is a welcome development for those who have been unfairly impacted by our nation’s harsh and outdated drug laws. The President announced Thursday, “No one should be in jail just for using or possessing marijuana,” he stated in a clip shared to Twitter. This is great news for those who have been convicted of simple federal cannabis offenses. The #pardon will clear their record and allow them to move on with their lives. There are still some hurdles to clear before this can be fully implemented, but it’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully, this will lead to more states legalizing cannabis and the federal government finally catching up.Debate over the legalization of cannabis has been raging for decades, with proponents arguing that the plant should be descheduled and made available for medical and adult use. Biden to pardon all federal offenses of simple marijuana possession
As I often said during my campaign for President, no one should be in jail just for using or possessing marijuana. Sending people to prison for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives and incarcerated people for conduct that many states no longer prohibit. Criminal records for marijuana possession have also imposed needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities. And while white and Black and brown people use marijuana at similar rates, Black and brown people have been arrested, prosecuted, and convicted at disproportionate rates.Today, I am announcing three steps that I am taking to end this failed approach.First, I am announcing a pardon of all prior Federal offenses of simple possession of #marijuana. I have directed the Attorney General to develop an administrative process for the issuance of certificates of pardon to eligible individuals. There are thousands of people who have prior #Federal #convictions for marijuana possession, who may be denied employment, housing, or educational opportunities as a result. My action will help relieve the collateral consequences arising from these convictions.Second, I am urging all Governors to do the same with regard to state offenses. Just as no one should be in a Federal prison solely due to the possession of marijuana, no one should be in a local jail or state prison for that reason, either.Third, I am asking the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Attorney General to initiate the administrative process to review expeditiously how marijuana is scheduled under federal law. Federal law currently classifies marijuana in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, the classification meant for the most dangerous substances. This is the same schedule as for heroin and LSD, and even higher than the classification of fentanyl and methamphetamine – the drugs that are driving our overdose epidemic.
